Looks like the markings on the unwrapped cloth pieces are much more evident after putting them in an onion skin dye bath. I plan on using them, along with lots of stitching and embellishment on an antique child's rocker that is in need of a new upholstery job. Down off the tree and now soaking in some vinegar and water.I think the marks are more from the linchens on the tree and mold rather than the tree itself.The wool I wrapped around the apple tree disappeared in one of the last wind storms. Seems just right to me... I hope it's in a nest somewhere.

I removed all the cloth from my wrapped trees and rocks this morning. No dramatic results. Most of what you see in these pics will wash away--loose dirt, etc. We do not have extreme weather here and there are not a lot of critters around. I will wash the pieces and use them in future dyes.

Hiya, here are the latest pictures of my wraps, they both survived Tropical Cyclone Yasi, . the callistomen lost a branch as per the photo, and the mango lost lots of small bits mostly.  These photos were taken on the morning after the cyclone. It's mostly mold stained, but there is a bit of green in places. In February I think I'll take it down and rinse it out. And then I'll re-wrap and leave it there through the summer. Still holding on, but no color. I never got around to wrapping it in fabric to hold the roving closer to the tree. I think I'll just leave the wool there and see if a bird helps themselves for a nest this year.

We've had so much rain i'm surprised there's anything to show, but i found a couple of things. Firstly i removed this wrap from one of my yard trees as it has so much sooty mould and the tree is so wet from all the rain that i thought it might be hazardous to keep it on. It looks good i think, like marbled paper only with just black, no colour. I might put it back again when the rain has cleared.

After only a month or so it's quite interesting.  I stopped watering the wraps after a few days, so the mango water stains are from the little rain we've had.  Little for us, in the wet season we get rain by the half metre or more..     The stain from the avocado dye on the callestomen has mostly washed off, except underneath one piece!  More interesting.. Four trees in my woods have been wrapped for over a month now. My grandmother's linen sheets are holding up well...they're still pristine white. however this fungus caught under one wrapping has decided to grow right on through. I anticipate great markings from this kind of activity. As you can see from the torn or chewed hole, there is critter activity too.

During my felt/natural dyeworkshop in Umbria i wanted to wrap a tree. Ofcourse i knew that one week was too short but i still liked to try. The linen i used almost stayed white. Next time i'll have to stay longer, don't you agree?

For the good of my little short leaf pine tree, Pinus Echinata, I have decided to unwrap it because it has had a growth spurt. It was probably not a good idea to wrap such a young tree but I was excited about trying to wrap as many different varieties of trees as I could find on this property. Following a suggestion from Kaite I put a bit of wool out. It's on an apple tree. I suppose I'll be lucky if one of the resident squirrels doesn't take it for a winter bed.... Nothing dramatic happening on my first wrap and I still haven't figured out what kind of tree it is. Nothing like a bit of mystery.

I decided to wrap another tree. This I know for sure is a Crepe Myrtle and it's wrapped with a cotton and tied on with some tshirt material so it will expand if it needs too. I have had slight changes in my first tree wrapping and I think we have only had one day of rain over the past weekend. Every other day we have had dry weather. Hiya, thought I'd just post some pictures of my 'wraps'..  In answer Kaite I don't have any eucalypt trees in my yard, but am happy to try the two trees I have wrapt.  The mango is in blossom/early fruit and by Feb will have had the fruit and most of a wet season, so I figure with sap, bat droppings (they eat the fruit greedily) and mould I should have some interesting markings on the fabric.  I

We had heavy rains this week as a result of 'Hermine'. Some parts of Austin, TX got as much as 14" of rain. Went out and checked the trees this morning and the fig tree, mountain laurel and crepe myrtle all show new fabric markings. Here are a few pictures. I believe or was told that this tree was a cottonwood tree. I am not sure it is or not but maybeif I describe it carefully there may be someone here that knows. Hello everyone, I have just joined this interesting group.. Glorious morning here, air is getting cooler now in the mornings and I went deep into the fields here and decided it might be fun to wrap a phytolacca americana bush otherwise known as poke berry, poke weed and even ink berry for obvious reasons. The stalk is a lovely crimson color and the berries almost look like little grape orbs. These herb plants are perennials and grow as tall as 10 ft.

When I was looking for trees to wrap, I completely overlooked a little specimen that we had gotten from the nearby fields. It was a tiny little sapling that has now grown up to my nose and I am 5 feet, 3 inches tall! It is hard for me to identify what type of pine tree it is but I think it is Pinus Echinata, Shortleaf Pine because the needles are bundled into sets of two. Wrap will be taken off

I wrapped my first tree yesterday, one I've never identified that grows in my yard. It is covered with some lichen at the moment, so I should get something interesting.... The fabric I used is a cotton.

The pups and I came across a fallen silver birch on our woodland walk. So I hauled it home, wrapt it and wedged it in the old apple tree. Wrapt a hemlock deep in the woods. this will get swallowed up in the snow when it arrives. And finally a majestic maple tree has a winter bandage.

I'm really enjoying this experiment, observing what nature can do to a piece of cloth, and as it was a lovely sunny day here i thought i'd take a couple of progress pics as well as show you the ecoprints i've made from the leaf litter under the wrapped trees. I went out this morning, gathered some flowers and stems and wrapped 2 rocks and a brick. I used cotton t-shirt fabric remembering how easily t-shirts get stained with food and such. I sprayed it over with vinegar and water and now I wait, and wait, and wait for nature to take its course. Here are a couple of pics.
