deb g - January update

It's mostly mold stained, but there is a bit of green in places. In February I think I'll take it down and rinse it out. And then I'll re-wrap and leave it there through the summer.

Still holding on, but no color. I never got around to wrapping it in fabric to hold the roving closer to the tree. I think I'll just leave the wool there and see if a bird helps themselves for a nest this year.

Deb, you made an important comment a while ago about heat possibly making a difference in the markings from those who live in southern hemispheres and those of us who live in the north. Just a suggestion but why don't you test this by leaving up your existing cloth and take another cloth to wrap for the summer and compare and contrast the two cloths as the year ends?

and if you still decide to take it down, press the cloth with a steam iron [hot setting, use protective paper or cloth] to help set the colour
then
let it cure for a month BEFORE you rinse it.

just a thought....

Like the idea that the wool fleece might provide a nests lining lol almost a RAK for the birdies!

Do we have to rinse at all? These days I rinse rarely. Preferring to leave the fabric hanging in the shade if there is an unpleasant smell, it does blow (wind) out. Then I heat set and store inside.

My wraps are hanging on, hopefully they will continue to do so until Feb ends!! (Cyclones permitting :) )
hugs

Deb i removed a black sooty mould one and dunked it in an alum mordant overnight then washed and ironed it, seems to be holding it's colour well. you could try something like that, i wouldn't just rinse it, you could lose what you've got. k.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Marti, I probably will try your idea. I really do suspect heat has something to do with results. Well, except for mold. Lots of mold this time of year. Achoo...

Ladies I find your project fascinating. Im following the bundling project as well.
Now to find a tree ;) lol. Have just moved to a city townhouse with a teeny patio. Might see if i can find a lonely branch (fallen of course) to bring home.
